Solo for violin - Viviane Hagner at the Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
A film by Servet Ahmet Golbol
The documentary about the Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2009 focuses on one of the world's most sought-after young violinists: Viviane Hagner. As artist in residence, she follows in the footsteps of violinist Julia Fischer and cellist Daniel Müller-Schott, who were portrayed by 3sat, a German-Austrian-Swiss TV channel, in 2007 and 2008. Viviane Hagner has been earning accolades for her musicality and creative force for many years. Born in Munich, she gave a guest performance at the early age of 13 in Tel Aviv, at the legendary joint concert of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berliner Philharmoniker.
First-rate concerts, the atmospheric ambience of historic architecture and an idyllic landscape – the Festival Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been a fixture in the German and international festival calendar since 1990. More than 100 concerts in 70 venues present musical performances of the highest standard.
As artist in residence, Viviane Hagner takes on major performances in 13 concerts. Among her many commitments in the course of this year’s festival, one musical task stands out: The “Octet for strings” in honour of the 200th birthday of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. This lively piece of chamber music is the focal point of the documentary.
Author Servet Ahmet Golbol accompanies Viviane Hagner to the magnificent venues of her concerts at castles, estates, in chapels and on the coast. Hagner’s mentors and artist friends are also on location. Pianist Nicole Hagner, Viviane’s sister, and composer Kent Nagano will talk about the exceptional violinist.

Music
One particular strength of AVE is classical music production. The spectrum of our productions ranges from large classical music galas for an audience of millions to classical concert recordings to sensitive and concise artist portraits. We repeatedly meet the challenge of bring-ing the fascination of music and our high level of respect for great artists to our viewers with a contemporary interpretation. There is a high degree of affinity between AVE and the young generation of artists who in the last few years in particular have been very successful in con-quering the international stage.
In the last few years, AVE in particular has produced high-quality series of documentaries about "young artistes" (including the violinist Lisa Batiashvili, the drummer Martin Grubinger or the dancer Katja Wünsche), the artists in residence at the Mecklenburg-West Pomerania Festival (including the violinist Julia Fischer, the cellist Daniel Müller-Schott or the violinist Viviane Hagner), great maestros such as Gidon Kremer or Mstislav Rostropovich and their interaction with young musicians or the series of documentaries on "Abenteuer Klassik" ("Classical Music Adventures") for a young audience with the Federal Youth Orchestra. These are supplemented by individual documentaries, individual concert recordings as well as classical music gala events.
